Dear MNL Family,

Recently, the Straits Times published a series of reports with the purpose of raising the level of public awareness on CLIMATE CHANGE which is a corollary, i.e consequence, of Global Warming.

What causes Global Warming? As most of us have learnt in secondary school, this phenomenon is the result of active deforestation, the overwhelming thirst in the consumption of fossil fuels and overcultivation of the farmlands to name a few. These activities have led to a rapid rise in the level of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This in turn leads to the temperature around the world increasing.

The papers noted that such activities have resulted in deserts forming and spreading at an alarming rate of 10m a year. Furthermore, the rising temperature of the sea water is causing widespread bleaching of the coral reefs. Already, 20% of the world's reefs are in dire straits, with another 20% hovering near the danger zone. Droughts, flash floods, heat waves and sudden intense snow storms are all signs that Mother Earth is under tremendous stress due to human activities that constantly inflict great damage to the her fragile ecosystem. Animals and plants are becoming extinct and the collateral damage is one which we can no longer ignore.

We must all do our part to protect Earth, our home. Nationalities, racial differences and political agendas must come secondary to the most salient banner, that we are first and foremost, a single species. We have wrought havoc to this world and we should bear the heaviest responsibility.

What can you and I do? For one, cut down on the usage of air conditioners. These are monsters that suck up prodigious amounts of energy. Save the Earth for our children is an old cliche, but one that endures through the ages simply because it speaks a truth, that we have no other home in this universe except the one we are destroying now.

Dear Family,

I hope the whole family has been well these few months. =) We are getting bigger and it will be natural that cliques will form where some members will be more familiar with some members while less with others. Dear Family,

In an effort to make this blog more than a newspaper (only reports and all), I shall place in a few issues that I've read about.

Today's issue:

Love : Words or Actions?

I've read this book called 'The Five Languages of Love' by Gary Chapman. (http://www.fivelovelanguages.com/learn.html)
Among these five languages, 1.) Words of Affirmation, 2.) Quality Time, 3.)Receiving Gifts, 4,) Acts of Service and 5.) Physical Touch, we can see a dichotomy (a seperation into two parts).

First Part: Words

Words of Affirmation such as 'I love you darling', compliments such as 'You are so beautiful' or 'The pasta you cooked was the most wonderful pasta I ever tasted!' serve to show your love verbally.

Second Part: Actions

The rest of the languages, I place them under the second group as they are actions. Physical Touch, even though most girls may think its out of horniness =P, does feature as a conduit through which love is transferred from one party to another and vice versa. Spending time together, searching for gifts, helping the other person do his/her laundry, sweep his/her floor, feed his/her pets, are all actions of love.

The question to you all is this : Which part is more important? Which part do you belong to? =) Personally, I favour Actions as Words are cheap. Like they say 'Easier said than done', or 'Kong kou shuo bai hua', words are easily said, but it is through actions that a person proves his/her love to the other. =)

This is the 1st event that MNL attended in force! More than 10 of us came down! MNL wan sui!

Our theme for the night is Black. Some say we were invisible in the night except for our teeth and our eyes. Some say we look like MIB. But we say, we just plain RAWK. :)
